This species is common and widespread throughout the UAE in sandy desert and associated plains (MEW 2010). Globally, the native range of this spans across northern Africa and the Sahara to Socotra and west/southwest Asia, including Afghanistan (Board of Trustees, RBG Kew 2019).

This species has a shrub growth form and is known to grow within sandy deserts and plains (MEW 2010, Heneidy et al. 2018). Species of the Calligonum genus are generally known to be used as food plants by Striped Hawkmoth (Hyles livornica) and Lackey Moth (Chilene laristana) caterpillars (Jongbloed et al. 2003).
