Within the UAE, this species is recorded from the foothills of the Hajar Mountains, however, detailed distribution information was not given by Jongbloed et al. (2003). Sharjah Seedbank & Herbarium hold records from scattered localities through the Hajar Mountains; Wadi Al Bih, Safsaf area, Al Manama, Kedra, Dibba-Khor Fakkan, Al Bithnah, and Hatta. It was not recorded from the Ru'us al-Jibal by Feulner (2011) or from Wadi Wurayah National Park by Feulner (2016). Globally, the native range of this species extends from Egypt to the Arabian Peninsula (Board of Trustees, RBG Kew 2019).

This is an annual herb species that can be found growing in sandy soil substrates within the foothills of mountainous areas (MEW 2010, Mahmoud et al. 2018). It is also a known host plant for the parasitic species Cuscuta planiflora (Jongbloed et al. 2003). The plant flowers between March and April (Norton et al. 2009).

Although this species is known to occur within the Hajar Mountains, detailed information regarding its population size and trend is lacking. It is not considered to be a common species, although it may be under-recorded due to its resemblance to the much more common E. hispanica (G.R. Feulner pers. comm. 2020). It is not known whether it occurs in any protected areas, nor if it is subject to any threats. As a result, it is assessed as Data Deficient.
