Taxon distribution as listed in assessment
The species has been described from the northern Hajar Mountains in addition to the Ru'us al-Jibal (Jongbloed et al. 2003). It is possible that this species used to be cultivated and has now become generally established within the mountains (Ghazanfar 2007). This plant exists at altitudes above c. 1100 m in the Ru'us al-Jibal, but is typically found at medium elevations in the Hajar Mountains (Feulner 2011). Its native range is from Europe to the Arabian peninsula and temperate Asia (Board of Trustees, RBG Kew 2019).

This species typically inhabits wadis, wadi banks and montane areas (Jongbloed et al. 2003). It is an annual herb species that produces delicate yellow flowers which are present from February to April (Western 1991, Jongbloed et al. 2003). The fruit consists of a capsule within sepals and the seeds resemble flat, light brown ovals (Jongbloed et al. 2003). It is a crop wild relative of flax, Linum usitatissimum (Kameswara Rao 2013).
