We follow Marhold (2011) and Chaytor and Turrill (1935) in considering the authority of this species to be '(Grauer) Turrill' with Peltaria aspera Grauer as the original combination. Plants of the World online (Board of Trustees, RBG Kew 2019) considers the authority to be '(Weber) Turrill' with Peltaria aspera Weber the original combination. Whilst IPNI (2019) places the species as Clypeola aspera Turrill.

Within the UAE, this species is found in the Ru'us al-Jibal (Jongbloed et al. 2003), where it is recorded at altitudes between c.500 m to 1,800 m (Feulner 2011, M. Tsaliki pers. comm. 2019). Globally, the native range of this species spans from Turkey to the Arabian Peninsula and Afghanistan (Board of Trustees, RBG Kew 2019).

This species is an annual which can grow up to 10 cm in height and is covered in barbed hairs (Jongbloed et al. 2003). It has narrow oblong leaves and produces white-yellow flowers (Jongbloed et al. 2003). It typically grows within silt substrates in between rocks found at high altitudes (Jongbloed et al. 2003).

Grazing by browsers, such as goats, may affect this species in areas of its range (G.R. Feulner in lit., MEW 2010). The impacts of climate change needs further research.
