This species is generally described as widespread and locally common; it occurs within Al Ain and Abu Dhabi. In addition, it described as growing in a wide range of habitats, especially irrigated areas within urban regions. As such, it is assessed as Least Concern.

Taxon distribution as listed in assessment
In the UAE, this plant species is recorded in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain (Jongbloed et al. 2003), with an additional record from near Khor Fakkan on the east coast. The species is abundant in lawns in Abu Dhabi urban area (G. Brown pers. comm. 2019), however these individuals may well have been introduced or escapees. In the world, it is native to Tropical & Subtropical Old World, but it has been very widely introduced to the Americas and to Australasia (Board of Trustees, RBG Kew 2018).

It is a delicate annual grass that occurs on plantations, gardens, in irrigated places, sandy soils and urban areas (G. Brown pers. comm. 2019, Brown and Sakkir 2004, Jongbloed et al. 2003, MEW 2010).
