Within the UAE, it is widespread throughout the Hajar Mountains (Jongbloed et al. 2003). Globally, this species ranges from Kenya to northeast Africa and the Arabian Peninsula (Board of Trustees, RBG Kew 2019).

This annual herb species grows within wadis and gravel in low montane habitats (Jongbloed et al. 2003, Mahmoud et al. 2018). It can reach up to 20 cm in height and produces milky sap whenever the stems are broken or damaged (Jongbloed et al. 2003). The plant has linear leave with pointed tips and small white flowers which are present between February and April (Jongbloed et al. 2003).
