Assessment rationale/justification
This species appears to be common at low altitudes and in sand dunes in the UAE. Whilst subpopulations may have undergone a significant decline as a result of coastal development, it is thought that the species still qualifies as Least Concern.

Habitat details as listed in assessment
This species is an annual which flowers from February to April and produced a triangular yellow nutlet for a seed (Ghazanfar and Fisher 1998, Jongbloed et al. 2003). It grows up to 0.25 m in height with lance-shaped leaves (Jongbloed et al. 2003). It is an important contributor to biomass in the dune and stabilised sand environment which it inhabits (Ghazanfar and Fisher 1998, Jongbloed et al. 2003). Rumex pictus is a crop wild relative of sorrel, Rumex acetosa (Kameswara Rao 2013).
Threats and conservation measures listed
Threats listed in assessment
Without detailed information on the distribution in the UAE, little can be said about threats, however, it is likely to have been impacted by coastal development.
