Habitat
Habitat details as listed in assessment
Caroxylon cyclophyllum is a perennial small shrub, with a woody base, that can grow up to 0.4 m in height (Jongbloed et al. 2003). It has round leaves and young leaves covered with silver hairs, in addition to winged fruit and flower spikes that are present between October and December (Jongbloed et al. 2003). This species has been recorded from rocky headland habitats in coastal environments in addition to rocky habitats further inland (Böer and Saenger 2006, Ghazanfar and Fisher 1998). It is also considered to be a xerohalophyte (a salt-tolerant desert species; Böer and Saenger 2006, Jongbloed et al. 2003). This plant is a crop wild relative of saltwort, Salsola verniculata (Kameswara Rao 2013).
