Within the UAE, this species is widespread along the coastline, occurring from north of Dubai to Sila'a (Brown et al. 2007, G. Brown pers. comm. 2019), including Khalifa City, close to Abu Dhabi (Perry 2008). It also extends further northeast, and with records from Khor Kalba (Sharjah Seed Bank and Herbarium pers. comm. 2019) on the east coast. It is also known from offshore islands, including Marawah and Salaha island (S. Sakkir pers. comm. 2019). This species is native to the Arabian Peninsula, Iran and India (Board of Trustees, RBG Kew 2019).

This perennial shrub species is known to grow generally in saline conditions, in addition to coastal white sands and silt-sand substrates (Brown et al. 2007, Norton et al. 2009, MEW 2010, G. Brown pers. comm. 2019). It is also recorded as being associated with salt marshes (Sakkir et al. 2017). The plant an grow up to 70 cm in height, has succulent club-shaped leaves and yellow-pink flowers which are present between October and Decembr (Jongbloed et al. 2003). It is a crop wild relative of saltwort, Salsola verniculata (Kameswara Rao 2013).
