Habitat details as listed in assessment
This is a perennial herb species that is typically found growing in compact sand substrates (Jongbloed et al. 2003, Mahmoud et al. 2018). Launaea procumbens is also considered to be a weed as it often grows within irrigated fields and in gardens (Jongbloed et al. 2003). This species can also persist in disturbed habitats close to those occupied by humans (Norton et al. 2009). It can grow up to 40 cm in height, has a leaf rosette at the base of the plant and produces yellow flowers between February and May (Jongbloed et al. 2003).

Assessment rationale/justification
The EOO is estimated at around 900 km2, which falls within the threshold for threatened categories. However, there is little information on threats to this species, making it difficult to estimate the number of locations or ascertain whether it is experiencing a continuing decline. As a result, this species is assessed as Near Threatened (B1a+2a; D1) due to its restricted distribution and the probability that the population size is small. No regional adjustment is made.

Assessment rationale/justification
This species was previously considered as Least Concern (MEW 2010) and was thought to be common within its range. However, there is no sound information about its distribution or any information about potential threats to the species, or about its use or trade, which makes it difficult to judge the extinction risk to this species. In addition, Jongbloed et al. (2003) suggest that this species may actually be part of Kohautia caespitosa. As a result, it is assessed as Data Deficient.

This species occurs at Jebel Hafeet and in the northeast of the UAE. Within its range, it is considered to be frequent and locally common at Jebel Hafeet. Feulner (2014) comments that the species is perhaps a recently arrived species. The distribution is expanding in the UAE, and it has been recorded from Ajmaan and from Madam (recorded in 1989). Assessment rationale/justification
In the UAE, the species occurs from Hatta southwards in the Hajar Mountains and also occurs on Jebel Hafeet. G.R. Feulner (in litt, MEW 2010) considers that it was possibly introduced in the 1970s or early 1980s. The species was uncommon but is expanding in the UAE, although the origin of the species in the UAE requires further research. Biogeographically, the species might be native, but there are examples of species that occur in Iran and further south in the Hajar Mountains, but not in the UAE (G.R. Feulner pers. comm. 2019). It is considered Data Deficient due to uncertainty over the origin of the species in the UAE. If proven to be native to the country, the species would be Least Concern.

This species is known from a currently unconfirmed record in Wadi Bih (Böer and Chaudhary 1999). Previously known only from a record by A.R. Western, the species was recently refound at a single site in Fujairah Emirate (D. Aplin pers. comm. 2020). Although the area of occupancy (4 km2) is restricted and it occurs at a single location based on potential threats, data are lacking on habitat, distribution (AOO and EOO), and the population size and trends, and the species is considered Data Deficient Research is required to confirm the distribution of the species in the UAE, including review of the western locality, and conservation actions are required.
