Assessment rationale/justification
Although this species is restricted to the Ru'us al-Jibal and the Wadi Wurayah National Park, it appears to persist well within these environments. It is described as locally common within the Ru'us al-Jibal and is thought to be a weed within abandoned fields. Grazing by goats may pose a threat to this species, but it is unclear the impact that this has on the plant. It is assessed as Least Concern.

This annual herb can grow up to 0.3 m in height and produces small, yellow flowers between January and May (Jongbloed et al. 2003, Karim and Dakheel 2006). It can be found growing in wadis, on hillsides, at roadsides, in abandoned fields and within salty basins, as it is a highly salt tolerant species (Jongbloed et al. 2003, Karim and Dakheel 2006). It is classed as a weed within abandoned field habitats (Feulner 2011).

Assessment rationale/justification
This species is known to occur in scattered localities across the UAE. In addition, it is not considered to be common. This suggests that population sizes are relatively small within the scattered subpopulations, however, there are no major threats currently listed for this species. Therefore, despite a restricted extent of occurrence (EOO) for this species, it is considered Least Concern.

Assessment rationale/justification
In the UAE, this species was considered to be restricted to the mountains of the Ru'us al-Jibal, however the species has recently been recorded for Wadi Helo and Wadi Mai. Whilst the species may have a widespread area of occupancy, it is always rare, and further research is required to confirm the full extent of its distribution within in the UAE. It is therefore assessed as Data Deficient.

Assessment rationale/justification
In the UAE, the species is recorded from the Ru'us al-Jibal from c.1,100 to c. 1,800 m elevation (Feulner 2011). This species occurs within a restricted range in the UAE: the estimated extent of occurrence (EOO) is approximately 546 km2. The area of occupancy (AOO) is likely to be similarly restricted. In addition, it is only found at high altitudes within this area and is considered to generally be rare. This species' habitat is experiencing ongoing decline due to development and grazing, however, the number of threat-based locations is unclear. Therefore, it is assessed as Near Threatened as a precaution, based on its restricted distribution and habitat availability in order to highlight threats or declines to this species. No regional adjustment is made to the assessment.

Taxon distribution as listed in assessment
Within the UAE, this species is recorded from scattered localities in the mountains including the Ru'us al-Jibal (Jongbloed et al. 2003). It is generally found between low to medium elevations (Jongbloed et al. 2003, Feulner 2011). The estimated EOO for this species is around 1,600 km2. Globally, the native range of this species encompasses northern Africa and Somalia, in addition to from the Mediterranean to the Arabian Peninsula and on to Iran (Board of Trustees, RBG Kew 2019).

Assessment rationale/justification
In the UAE, the species is restricted to the northern Hajar Mountains and the Ru'us al-Jibal, with records extending to the east coast and Al Shuwaib (Abu Dhabi). Although the extent of occurrence is moderately restricted, at less than 2,000 km2, and there is a lack of information on threats and its population trend, it is likely to occur in many more than ten locations and is therefore assessed as Least Concern.

Taxon distribution as listed in assessment
In the UAE, the species is restricted to the northern Hajar Mountains (Jongbloed et al. 2003) and the Ru'us al-Jibal in the UAE (Jongbloed et al. 2003, Feulner 2011, <a href=""http://data.rbge.org.uk/herb/E00641628"">RBGE Herbarium</a>), with records extending to the east coast (oceanic garden behind the beach, Mudaifi, Sharjah), Wadi Helo (Sharjah) and Al Shuwaib (Abu Dhabi) (Sharjah Seedbank & Herbarium). Feulner (2011) recorded the species from the Ru'us al-Jibal to at least 800 m asl. Whilst the map shown by Jongbloed et al. (2003) encompasses the Wadi Wurayah National Park (WWNP), presence there has not been confirmed, although N. hastatum has been and may prove to be a synonym of N. ramosissimum (Feulner 2016). The global range of this species is through northeastern Africa to the Arabian Peninsula (Oman) to Southeast Asia (Board of Trustees, RBG Kew 2019).
