This species has specific habitat requirements (carbonate rock) and in the UAE, this species is known from the Ru'us al-Jibal, from Jebel Hafeet and from Jebel Maleihah, though Brown and Sakkir (2004) report the species from offshore islands in Abu Dhabi Emirate without specific details. Although the distribution in the UAE is restricted, there are not thought to be any significant threats, and the species is assessed as Least Concern.

Within the UAE, this species is known from scattered locations in the Hajar Mountains, and from the Ru'us al-Jibal, where it is more widespread (Jongbloed et al. 2003, Feulner 2011). The species is found on coastal cliffs and in wadis of the Ru'us al-Jibal, as well as on other carbonate massifs such as Jebel Hafeet (G.R. Feulner, in lit, MEW 2010) and Jebel Maleihah (Feulner 2011). In the Ru'us al-Jibal, Feulner (2011) reported the species from 5 m - 1,000 m asl. Brown and Sakkir (2004) report the species from offshore islands in Abu Dhabi Emirate without specific details. The native range of this species is in Africa from Egypt south to Tanzania, through the Arabian Pen, West Asia to India, and the western Indian Ocean (Board of Trustees, RBG Kew 2019).

The species is found on mountains, coastal cliffs and in wadis (G.R. Feulner, in lit, MEW 2010). Normally a hanging cliff plant that is only found on calcareous rock. It is a woody perennial plant with woody stems, hanging or spreading up to 0.5-2.0 m (Jongbloed et al. 2003).
