Assessment rationale/justification
This species has a wide coastal distribution in the UAE along the Arabian Gulf coast and associated inland sabkha areas. Although subpopulations will have been impacted by coastal development, it is thought that the species still qualifies as Least Concern.

Taxon distribution as listed in assessment
Within the UAE, this species occurs along the Gulf coast of the country, in addition to inland sabkha plains (Jongbloed et al. 2003, MEW 2010). It has also been recorded from off-shore islands of Abu Dhabi (Sakkir et al. 2017). The global distribution is uncertain because of taxonomic issues, but is thought to extend around the Mediterranean basin, to the Arabian Peninsula.

The species is found along the coast and on inland saline sand plains (Jongbloed et al. 2003). It is a parasitic plant whose host is usually members of the Chenopodiaceae or Zygophyllaceae families (Jongbloed et al. 2003).
