Assessment rationale/justification
Although having been described from a single site in the UAE, it now appears to be ambiguous as to how common this species is in the country. Similar plants are present on limestone hills to the north but have now been determined to be different species. Confirmation of the identity and distribution of this, and related species, is required, and this species is therefore assessed as Data Deficient.

Taxon distribution as listed in assessment
The distribution of this species within the UAE is not well understood. Jongbloed et al. (2003) recorded it from one locality at Qarn Nazwa, and D. Aplin (pers. comm. 2019) recorded the species (i.d. S. Neale RBGE) from the upper parts of Wadi Sahm (Fujairah) at c.600 m elevation. G.R. Brown has seen the species only once, and considers the species to be restricted to limestone areas in the east of the UAE. There is possible confusion and taxonomic uncertainty between this species and other members of the group. Globally, the native range of this species spans from Tanzania to the Sahara and to Pakistan (Board of Trustees, RBG Kew 2019).

Habitat details as listed in assessment
In the UAE, it is restricted to an outlying limestone hill. This perennial shrub species has a woody base and can reach up to 0.3 m in height (Jongbloed et al. 2003, Fawzi and Ksiksi 2012). Its leaves have pointed tips and prominent veins, along with wavy edges, while the white flowers are only present between March and May (Jongbloed et al. 2003).
