Taxon distribution as listed in assessment
This species is known from Al Ain within the UAE. It is now considered to have a more restricted distribution than previously thought as a result of confusion with a related species, Indigofera colutea, which occurs along the west of the UAE (Ghazanfar and Fisher 1998, Jongbloed et al. 2003). Globally, this species occurs from the Sahara to India (Board of Trustees, RBG Kew 2019).

Habitat details as listed in assessment
In terms of appearance, habitat and ecology, this species is described as being quite similar to Indigofera colutea (Jongbloed et al. 2003). It has woody stems and grows to moderate heights (around 50 cm) in addition to producing flowers between January and July (Jongbloed et al. 2003). Differing to I. colutea, it has a silvery aspect, however it also exhibits a perennial life cycle (Jongbloed et al. 2003). This species is found growing on sand plains, sand dunes and along roadsides, in addition to favouring gravel wadi beds (Jongbloed et al. 2003). I. argentea is a crop wild relative of indigo, I. tinctoria (Kameswara Rao 2013).
Threats and conservation measures listed
Threats listed in assessment
This species is known to be affected by grazing, as it is more often seen in areas with lower grazing pressure. Coastal populations are likely to have been impacted by development.

Assessment rationale/justification
In the UAE, this species appears to be known from just one locality (Jebel Hafeet) and both the extent of occurrence (EOO) and areas of occupancy (AOO) are restricted, probably less than 25 km2. Without further information on threats, in addition to population size and trend, the species is considered Data Deficient, however, the species is in urgent need of research, and may qualify for a threatened category given its highly restricted distribution within the UAE, and potential threats from development and infrastructure development on Jebel Hafeet.

In the UAE, Jongbloed et al. (2003) reported this species from Jebel Hafeet, where it is found at the base and on the lower slopes (G.R. Feulner pers. comm. 2020). The Sharjah Seedbank & Herbarium hold one record from the Al Madam-Hatta Road in Oman, very close to the border with the UAE, c.5 km from Al Madam. The species is also believed to occur along the Hajar Mountain front east of Jebel Hafeet, in the Omani province of Wilayat Mahdhah (G.R. Feulner pers. comm. 2020). The global range of this species is from northeastern Africa and through the Arabian Peninsula (Board of Trustees, RBG Kew 2019).

There are few records of this species in the UAE. Jongbloed et al. (2003) gives localities as Rams (R'as Al-Khaimah), Al Ain (Abu Dhabi), and the Masafi-Dibba Road (Fujairah/R'as Al-Khaimah). The Sharjah Seedbank & Herbarium holds specimens from two localities; Wadi Shees (Fujairah) and from the Mahafez bridge (Sharjah-Kalba Road, Sharjah). Mahmoud et al. Assessment rationale/justification
Although Jongbloed et al. (2003) mention that the species occurs along the Arabian Gulf coast, only two herbarium records have been found for this species, both from a single locality and dating to 1982. No further, or more recent, data have been found, and the species is considered Data Deficient. Research is required to confirm the continued occurrence of the species at the locality near Abu Dhabi, and to determine its current distribution within the UAE.

This species appears to be known from a small number of mostly old records. R.A. Western collected the species in 1982 from Umm an-Nar between the old and new Abu Dhabi airports (<a href=""http://data.rbge.org.uk/herb/E00140039"">RBGE Herbarium</a>), and again in 1982 from an adjacent site: a small island close to the new airport (<a href=""http://data.rbge.org.uk/herb/E00140044"">RGBE Herbarium</a>). The continued presence of the species in this area requires confirmation due to the extensive development that has occurred since the species was collected. Jongbloed et al. (2003) mention the species without localities, simply stating that it occurs along the Arabian Gulf coast. The global range of this species is through the Arabian Peninsula to Iran and Pakistan (Board of Trustees, RBG Kew 2019). Farsetia heliophila is also known to occur in the Musandam in Oman.

Assessment rationale/justification
In the UAE, this species was recorded by M. Jongbloed from the base of Jebel Hafeet (Jongbloed et al. 2003). The distribution is uncertain as a result of confusion with other members of the genus, particularly F. indica. The draft Red Data Book for the UAE (MEW 2010) considered all collections from Jebel Hafeet to be referable to Fagonia indica. Therefore, this species is currently assessed as Data Deficient pending research into Fagonia species taxonomy.

Assessment rationale/justification
Whilst Feulner (2011) recorded this species from a single locality in the Ru'us al-Jibal, Jongbloed et al. (2003) considered it to be a garden weed, suggesting a more widespread distribution, but also raising a question over the origin of the species in the UAE, and recent publications (Pahlevani 2017, Randall 2017) do not place the UAE within the native range of the species. The species is placed here as Data Deficient pending further research.

Globally, this species is native to Africa, the Arabian Peninsula and through to Pakistan according to Plants of the Wold online (Board of Trustees, RBG Kew 2019). However, there appears to be some uncertainty; Randall (2017) considers it a weed, dispersed by humans and livestock, that is native to Africa, whilst Pahlevani (2017) considers it native to Asia (Saudi Arabia and Yemen only) and Africa.

Assessment rationale/justification
This species appears to be known from a small number of isolated records in eastern Abu Dhabi Emirate, however it is considered to be easily confused with C. prostratus in the Arabian Peninsula (Wood et al. 2015). Confirmation of the identity, distribution and population status of this species is needed, and it is currently considered to be Data Deficient.

Taxon distribution as listed in assessment
This species appears to be known from a small number of isolated records in eastern Abu Dhabi Emirate (Jongbloed et al. 2003), including records from Al Ain city and from northwest of Abu Dhabi city (Sharjah Seedbank & Herbarium) and from Wadi Al Ain (Mousa and Fawzi 2009). Mahmoud et al. (2018) reported this species from gravel plains below the western slopes of the Hajar Mountains, but without specific localities. The draft Red Data Book for the UAE (MEW 2010) excluded this species on the basis that no confirmed specimens had been seen. Convolvulus pilosellifolius is easily confused with C. prostratus in the Arabian Peninsula (Wood et al. 2015) which may impact the known distribution of this species. The native range of this species is from eastern parts of North Africa, the eastern Mediterranean to Central Asia and Pakistan (Board of Trustees, RBG Kew 2019).
