Assessment rationale/justification
This species has beenexperiencing a continuing decline in habitat extentand quality, through environmental changes andhabitat degradation. Generation length has beenestimated as two to three years based on data fromMacdonald (2004). A population decline of at least 50% over the next ten years is expected,qualifying it as Endangered under Criterion A3c. The assessment remains unchangedfollowing application of regional criteria as there is no signifi cant immigration from adjacentcountries.

Allactaga elater is threatenedby habitat degradation and severe weather conditions.This species has an extent of occurrence of less than 5,000km2 (approximately 2,000 km2), is restricted to fewer thanfi ve locations, and is experiencing a continuing declinein habitat extent and quality, qualifying it as Endangeredunder Criterion B1ab(iii). The assessment remainsunchanged following application of regional criteria asthere is no signifi cant immigration from adjacent countries.
