Assessment rationale/justification
Population size is low and has declined by 7% over the past four years (population size in 2001 was 201 killer whales of all ages).

The offshore population is poorly studied but is believed to consist of at least 200 individuals (and likely fewer than 250 mature individuals). They may be sensitive to stochastic demographic processes due to their low numbers.; La population océanique est peu étudiée, mais elle semblerait compter au moins 200 individus (et probablement moins de 250 individus matures). Assessment rationale/justification
This population is small (78 animals in 2001, all ages) and has declined by 20% from 1995-2001. Organochlorine levels are high and the whales are subject to high levels of boat traffic (including whale watching).

Assessment rationale/justification
This wolf may be a separate species. Its exact range is not known, partly because it hybridizes with grey wolves. Although there is no evidence of decline in either number or geographic range over the last 20 years, it may be undergoing hybridization with coyotes, possibly exacerbated by habitat changes and high levels of harvesting. Identification of this taxon requires a molecular analysis.; Ce loup pourrait être une espèce distincte.

Assessment rationale/justification
This vole has very strict habitat requirements and it is mostly found within the Carolinian Forest zone, which is under heavy pressure from human development. Populations are fragmented and undergo wide fluctuations in numbers. Because of its fossorial habits, presence and abundance of this vole are difficult to document, but almost all records from the past 25 years are confined to a small section of Ontario.; Ce campagnol possède des exigences très strictes en matière d'habitat.

Assessment rationale/justification
The range of this forest-dwelling rodent has decreased following habitat destruction through forestry and urbanization, and some of the remaining area of occupancy is at risk from these same activities.

Assessment rationale/justification
A widespread species whose population density varies regularly over 10-11 year cycles, following the cycles in abundance of its main prey, the snowshoe hare.
